Barter Is Back: Zèya Surpasses 100,000 Downloads as Swap Culture Gains Momentum
Miami born peer-to-peer marketplace marks a major growth milestone following a $2.45 million strategic growth round and a recent product overhaul built to make swapping easier, faster and more social.
MIAMI, FL - August 28, 2026 - Zèya, the peer-to-peer swap marketplace built to make trading the first choice, has surpassed 100,000 downloads across iOS and Android. The milestone marks a new stage for the Miami born company, which is modernizing one of the oldest forms of commerce for a generation accustomed to swiping, matching and chatting from their phones.
For Zèya, the number is bigger than a download milestone. It is evidence that more people are willing to look at the things they already own as usable value. Instead of selling an item for cash and then shopping for something else, users can trade directly for what they want, from fashion, baby products and collectibles to books, technology, and sports equipment. When a straight swap does not quite balance, users can add an optional cash top-up to help make the exchange work.
"One hundred thousand downloads is exciting because it shows that swapping can become a real habit, not a last resort,” said Mehdi Taifi, Founder & CEO of Zèya. “Zèya started with a simple question: why should getting something new to you always mean buying something new? We want trading to feel as natural as swiping - fast, social and easy enough that people think of it first. This milestone matters, but we’re building for the next million."
From early traction to the next phase of growth
Earlier this year, Zèya closed a $2.45 million strategic growth round led by Storage Innovations LLC. The financing was announced to support product development, AI capabilities, logistics and storage integrations, and expansion across key markets. That investment has helped Zèya scale the product and team while sharpening the experience around a simple goal: reduce the friction between opening the app and completing a swap.
The company’s larger bet is cultural. Barter is not new; Zèya’s approach to it is. The company is taking a familiar exchange model and rebuilding it around the way people discover and communicate today. The result is less like a classified listing board and more like a social marketplace: users browse, swipe, connect, chat and work out a trade with another person.
Why Zèya is different
Swipe. Match. Swap. Zèya turns item discovery into a familiar swipe experience. Users can browse what is available nearby, find something they want, connect with another person and move directly into a conversation about the trade.
Trade value, not dollars. The starting point is what users already own. A vintage bag, unused camera, piece of furniture or set of golf clubs can become part of the offer for something else. If the values are uneven, an optional cash top-up can bridge the difference without turning the experience into a traditional resale transaction.
A marketplace that feels like a community. Location based discovery keeps exchanges relevant to where people live, while private Groups and group chat let users organize around shared interests, neighborhoods or categories. The goal is not only more inventory, but more relevant exchanges inside communities people already care about.
Zèya 4.0: less friction between “I want that” and the swap
Rolled out earlier this summer, Zèya 4.0 was built around simplification after user feedback showed that the previous experience had accumulated too many steps. The update refreshed the interface and navigation, shortened onboarding and redesigned the offer flow so users can move more quickly from browsing to a real exchange.
One of the most visible additions is the AI Listing Assistant. Users can upload a photo and let the app generate core listing details including the item name, description and category in seconds. Zèya 4.0 also lets users chat before committing to an offer, introduces a visual balance meter to make the value of a proposed trade easier to understand at a glance, adds group chat, and expands categories including Baby & Toddler and Sports & Outdoors.
"Barter is simple in theory: I have something you want, you have something I want, and we trade,” Taifi said. “The technology should make that easier, not add friction. With 4.0, we focused on shortening the distance between opening Zèya and making a swap - faster listings, clearer offers and more room for people to talk before they trade."
On the way to one million
With the 100,000 download milestone reached, Zèya is focused on building greater density in local markets so users see more relevant items and have more opportunities to trade nearby. The company is also continuing to develop its product, categories and community tools as it works toward its next growth target: one million downloads.
The idea behind that growth is captured in one of Zèya’s simplest brand lines: someone else wants what you already own. Zèya is betting that when trading becomes as easy to discover as shopping, more people will choose to swap first.
